Candy Necklace History

Candy necklaces, also known as candy beads or candy jewelry, have been a popular treat for children and adults for many decades. The concept of edible jewelry dates back to ancient times, where people would adorn themselves with jewelry made of edible materials such as fruits, nuts, and grains.

The modern candy necklace, however, was invented in the early 1950s by a company called "Smarties Candy Company" in Union, New Jersey. The original candy necklace was made of small tablets of flavored compressed sugar, shaped like beads and strung together on an elastic string. These necklaces quickly became a hit with children, who loved the idea of being able to wear and eat their jewelry.

Over the years, the candy necklace has evolved and expanded to include a variety of different flavors, shapes, and sizes. Today, candy necklaces are made by many different candy companies and are sold all over the world. They remain a beloved treat for children and adults alike, and are often seen at parties, festivals, and other events.

Candy Necklaces Memories

When I was little I used to eat candy necklaces all the time. I loved the chalky taste. On my tenth birthday I had a sleepover and I invited my 2 best friends over, I gave them candy necklaces and other sweets as party favors.

We watched a scary movie and ate popcorn and candy. After the movie we had a fashion show, my friend Amanda wore my big sisters prom dress along with her candy necklace. After the fashion show we were all so tired we decided it was time for bed.

The next morning I woke up to laughing, I sat up and saw my friend Audrey pointing at Amanda and hysterically laughing. I told her to be quiet since Amanda was still asleep. After Audrey stopped laughing I asked her what she was laughing about and she said "Amanda left her candy necklace on all night and it left a colorful mark on her neck!" I started laughing so hard I was crying. My laughing was so loud Amanda woke up. She said "What are you guys laughing about?" We just sat there and laughed until she figured it out herself. To this day whenever we see each other we always laugh about it. I love candy necklaces!!! ~ Stephanie from Maine
